100 YEARS OF ENTERTAINMENT EXHIBIT

The museum is currently featuring an exhibit on the Metropolitan Theatre, which turned 100 years old this July. This exhibit features artifacts, photographs, oral records and more spanning the last 100 years. In 1924, the Metropolitan Theatre opened it’s doors to the public as a vaudeville house designed by Charles W. Bates and was granted the title of “West Virginia’s Most Beautiful Playhouse”. The Metropolitan Theatre has always been a cultural anchor in the Downtown Historic District of Morgantown. It is one of the better surviving examples of the neoclassical revival architecture in the region.

FIRST FRIDAY FOR THE ARTS

First Friday for the Arts was created by the Arts Council of Greater Morgantown as a way to sustain an inclusive community-centered series of art events that recur every first Friday of the month intending to bring together creatives and businesses to present a night to immerse in the arts.

We are currently one of eight participating locations, including 6 gallery spaces, two storefront exhibitions, and a jewelry demo site.

The next First Friday event will be on Friday, September 8th

from 5-9PM and will feature the unveiling of the exhibit about the first airplane built and flown in WV.

The airplane was flown by Ralph Kinderman and Ben Garrison in Hoard Rocks, WV just outside of Morgantown.

First Friday for the Arts is an affiliate program through Main Street Morgantown.
