Thinking about donating or loaning artifacts to the Museum?

Donate an Artifact
We encourage you to speak with museum director as we evaluate whether the object is a good fit for our collection/whether our museum is a good fit for the object.  Due to space and care requirements, we consider every donation offer carefully. Artifact assessments can be conducted over email with the museum director or in-person by appointment. Objects accepted are listed on a Deed of Gift which requires the donor’s signature.

The donor will receive one copy of the Deed of Gift (if requested) and the museum will keep one on file permanently. Once this form is signed, the process is complete and unrestricted ownership of the artifact is transferred to the museum.

After this transfer, the artifact is cataloged into the museum’s collections database, carefully preserved, and accessed for later exhibition, special programming, or research requests. To discuss potential donations please contact the Museum at 304-319-1800, or email morgantownwvhistory@morgantownwv.gov.

We request that all donors provide background information on their object (to the best of their ability) when filling out the Deed of Gift form.

The Deed of Gift form is used mostly by individuals and organizations who gift the ownership of an artifact or artifacts to the museum. These artifacts become museum property and are kept as part of the museum archive.

Loans
We are happy to hear of items we might be able to borrow on a temporary basis for our exhibition program. Loans are handled on a case-by-case basis.

The loan form is specific to artifact loans from institutions (such as other museums) and for short term loans of objects from individuals that are exhibit specific (such as when we borrow someone's item) This form means that we have been loaned the item or items for a short term that is predetermined. Usually, it is no more than a few months to a year.

If you have items you think would be of interest to the Museum and its audience, please contact the Museum at

304-319-1800, or email morgantownwvhistory@morgantownwv.gov.
